Vandrende Hjerte
2025
Excerpt from the introduction to the exhibition:
With the three works, Hannah Toticki has allowed her characteristic sculptural language of form to expand into direct, abstract, and above all deeply personal references to the lives and work of danish artist Kirsten Kjær (1893-1985) and danish author Karin Michaëlis (1872-1950) – as well as to the many moods and themes the two artists evoked. The works are particularly inspired by Karin Michaëlis’ novel Hjertets Vagabond (1930), a fictional account of Kirsten Kjær’s stay in California, which is filled with vitality and love for people – and just as importantly, for the sun, worms, the sensual, the playful, and life as a biological fact. Hannah Totickis sculptural costumes give Kirsten Kjær’s and Karin Michaëlis’ artistic and political ideas new bodies, weaving them into our present time. – Nanna Stjernholm Jepsen
